1928. The Archive of American Folk-Song was founded in the Music Division of the Library of Congress.
1935. I was born in Highland Park, IL.
1948. I saw Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson perform at a Progressive Party rally in New Haven, CT.
1953. I graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven and entered Oberlin College.
1954. Pete Seeger gave his first concert at Oberlin College.
1955. Pete Seeger wrote the first 3 verses of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" on his way to do a concert at Oberlin College.
1957. I graduated from Oberlin College and began attending Indiana University, majoring in folklore and ethnomusicology.
1958. I attended my first folklore society meeting (Ohio Folklore Society in Columbus).
1960. I composed the 4th and 5th verses of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone."
1963. I left Indiana University and began work at the Archive of Folk Song at the Library of Congress.
1968. My son, Michael, was born.
1978. The 50-year-old LC Folk Archive moved from the Music Division to the American Folklife Center.
1998. I retired from LC FOLK.
2003. The LC Archive of Folk Culture is 75 years old.
